Laboratory Testing

The results are clear. Ozone washing is gentle on linens when compared to washing in hot water. Ozone washing is less harmful for fabrics and not only is the quality of linen improved, but linen life improved, but linen life is also extended.

In recent laboratory test, linen wear was measured from an ozone wash and then compared to that of a traditional hot water wash.  It is important to note that the hot water wash was only 120F not the commonly used 160F. The results are dramatic.

The testings showed that the tensile strength of the linens washed was reduced by an alarming 37% when using the hot water wash. In comparison, there was only an 8% decrease in tensile strength when using the ozone wash. Tensile strength is a measurement of the force necessary to tear or permanently deform the fabric.

Similarly dramatic results were found when measuring the mechanical damage incurred by the fabrics during the wash process. There was 29% mechanical damage when washing with the traditional, hot water wash and only 7% damage with the more gentle ozone washing option.

An additional test was done measuring the negative affects of chemicals on linen during an ozone wash compared to that of hot water washing.  The results showed that the chemical wear on linen during a hot wash were 18% versus only 1% wear when washing with ozone.
